Look What I Did!

Ok, everyone is sleeping and I wanted to blog these pictures before I forget. We have all tried to teach L to climb down the stairs. We have all failed. She had no interest in learning how to do it. Why would you when you can just yell and one of your adoring family members will carry you down? I was starting to think it would be easier to teach her calculus. As she is my 3rd pea, you would think I would know what I was doing in the parenting department. Sadly, I don't. She's my first baby living in a house with stairs. After B tried for what must have been the 6th time to teach her today, I had a stroke of genius. GERBER FRUIT SNACKS! She'll do anything to get something that might be food in her mouth, and she loves those things. First, I put the package a couple of steps down from her. After she made it to them, I gave her one, then put a couple on each stair all the way down. It went like this...

Too Busy...Have a Laugh

Busy, busy, busy. No time to blog. I was on the way to the grocery store this morning and heard another funny "Real Men of Genius" commercial on the radio. There was only one clip of it on youtube. Looks like some silly kids made a video for it (and dubbed over the word "Budweiser" with "bottle of water"). Too funny. Real Men of Genius - Mr. Ceremonial First Pitch Thrower Outer...

Memory Lane Monday

Here are some pictures of Daniel and I in high school. Can you believe how high waisted jeans used to be? I'm sure I could blog about our high school romance for several paragraphs, but I'll spare you. Needless to say, it's been a long and winding road.Daniel's 18th birthday. P.S. Happy Belated 29th birthday Daniel!

This was either the day before or after our Senior Prom...not sure which. Seriously was he cute or what? I wonder if I can convince him to grow back those 90's sideburns. I loved those!

This one may have been our Freshman year of college.

I look 12 years old in this picture. I think this one was the last week of our senior year.

B's New Obsession

B has recently developed an obsession with Encarta Kids. I used it when I did home preschool with her, but she recently rediscovered it. She will sit for long periods of time looking things up and exploring. The only problem is that when she's surfing around on it she keeps screaming, "Mama! Look at this!". Then, I have to keep coming over to the computer every 30 seconds.

The Silicon Valley of India...um yeah.

My beloved husband is leaving tomorrow for Bangalore India, also known as "the Silicon Valley of India". I will miss him desperately.

B's in the Kitchen

B decided to be helpful while I was folding laundry and packing. She made lunch for J and herself. She was proud, so I thought I'd blog up a picture.

***Edited to add: I found this after I already blogged the previous pictures. Gotta love this kid...

Playing With Mama & Her Sarong

Posted by Picasa

Picture for Emily

Emily had asked me to put up a picture of the outside of the house. I totally forgot to do that. So, I just ran outside and took one before I could forget again. Here it is.

New Hiding Spot

I took these pictures a week or two ago. L has developed a recent fascination with putting her toys in the fireplace. I don't understand why it amuses her so much, but the fact is, it does. Good times.

It Is Finished...

I have finished Harry Potter. It was awesome. My mind is still reeling with the sheer volume of information that I've absorbed in the past 2 days.

Today I cleaned the bathrooms, took care of the peas, and read the remaining 350 pages of book 7. It was a busy day. I'm emotionally spent. That's how I know it was a great book.

Out of Commission

I will likely be off the blog for a short while. Well, off the computer entirely. I'm expectedly engrossed in...

Happy Anniversary

Happy 7 year anniversary to us. Daniel and I went to see the 3D Harry Potter at the IMAX today, and out to lunch. Grammy and Grampy babysat for us. In some ways it feels like we just got married...in others it feels like we've been married forever. After 12 years together it's kind of hard to remember a time when we weren't together. I am not looking forward to our impending 2+ week separation while Daniel travels to Bangalore. I miss him already.

Interesting Weather

I went grocery shopping at 8am today. When I got home I had to take a picture of this blackness rolling toward our house. It was moving so fast you could stand and just watch it overcome you. It was beautiful.

Kids Say the Darndest Things

I gave the kids the box that Daniel's memorabilia came in. They had asked for it. I told them they could play with it during the baby's nap, but then we had to clean up all the packing peanuts and throw it away. They had it for 5 minutes, then J came down and said...

J: Mama, we need you to make a rocket ship.
Me: A rocket ship? I don't know how to make a rocket ship.
J: With the box. We need you to make a rocket ship with the box.

So much for occupying them during afternoon "resting time"

I Talk Too Much

I've always had too much to say. I think that is why I talk so quickly. My mind is always running a mile a minute. I've been thinking lately that I need to be less verbose with my blogging. The problem is that the words fly from my brain to my fingertips at around 65-70 words per minute. That makes for a wordy blog.

We had a playdate with Leslie and kids today. It was fun. She's probably glad it's over. I'm sure I talked her ear off. ;) The kids have a pioneer primary activity this evening. Pictures will be forthcoming.

Daniel plays on the Advanced Volleyball League at work on Wednesdays (notice I had to brag about it being the advanced league, there is a funny story behind this). We got a giant box of his childhood memorabilia and what not from his mom today. Twenty-six pounds worth of papers and pictures and academic games ribbons (yes I'm a nerd lover), etc. So, I was looking through this newest of many shipments of his belongings and lost track of time.

In the 7 years (okay we're still a week shy of 7 years) of our marriage I can honestly say that today is the first time we've ever had cereal for dinner. The kids were acting like it was Christmas or something when I asked them if they wanted to have cereal for dinner. I would say that it was a low in my homemaking skills, but if we eat cereal for dinner once every 7 years, I don't think we'll die.

Speaking of Bargain Hunting...

Emily was saying something about bargain hunting lately. Since I haven't been working for the awhile now my bargain hunting passion has been reawakened to some degree. Trying to get our food storage & supplies fully stocked has also enhanced this desire. Plus, I used to work during nap time/rest time, now I get kind of bored. However, I'm too tired to do anything really useful during nap time, like housework. So, hunting deals is a good hobby. Also, I can do it while lying down on my laptop next to the big peas.

Anyway, here's my score for this week so far (I have one more CVS stop to make next time I pass by there)...Grand total for this haul $51. Plus, I have $22 in Extra Care Bucks left from CVS to use next time.

My first CVS trip I got...
2 boxes Kotex
2 jumbo bags Huggies Supreme
1 Huggies Pull ups
1 Excedrin
2 Benefiber
1 Maalox
2 Vive Shampoo

My total started out at $75...when she was done ringing in the sales and coupons my total was down to $24...then the register spit out $30 in Extra Care Bucks (free CVS $$$) for me at the end.

CVS is in our neighborhood, so I stopped by when I passed it, but Target is a few miles up the road. I stopped in there yesterday as I passed it on my way home from L's Dr. appointment.
I got...

2 jumbo bags of easy ups
3 jumbo bags of Pampers baby dry
5 small packs of Pampers Sensitive Wipes
2 Johnson's Bath Buddies (kid soap)
2 Gerber Graduates Ravioli (L's favorite)
2 bottles of Mott's Apple Juice

Original total $43.18, final total $27...not my best work, but still a really good deal.

Then, I made up a little list for Daniel to stop one more time at CVS as he passed it on his way home from work yesterday. He got...

7 jars of skippy peanut butter
3 10 packs of pencils
3 bags of skittles
1 3 pack of dial soap
1 full size box Huggies wipes
1 soft and dry deodorant
1 right guard deodorant

His original total $38...after sales, coupons, etc and using a $15 Extra Care buck that I had earned the day before...final total .71 cents. Plus, the register spit out another $7 in Extra Care bucks for next time. That was my favorite bargain moment of the week.

Misc Amusing Recent Photos

Blurry but funny. "Mom, I'm having a crisis PUT DOWN THE CAMERA!"

Playing games. UNO and Clue Jr.

L does not like to miss a bath. She had just had one, and had just gotten dressed. She decided to jump back in with her sisters, fully clothed. She gets her monkey toes up on the edge and dives right in, head first.

Check Up Day

Today was L's 1 year check up. Doesn't she look sassy in her little outfit? (Children's Place Outlet, $1.99 top & $1.99 skirt, gotta love a deal) Her Dr. told her she was beautiful, and healthy, and lucky to have so many people in her family who love her so much. Can't argue that. She's 19lbs 7oz, 30 inches long. 75%ile for height, 25%ile for weight, 50%ile for her head. Her height and weight change on the %ile charts all the time, but her head has always been right at the 50% mark. She's still lightweight even though she gained 3lbs in the last 3 months. She did not enjoy getting 3 shots and the TB test. She spent quite a lot of time trying to rip the bugs bunny bandaid off her arm, so I just removed them all. She looked like she had been attacked by a box of loony tunes bandaids.

I'm so glad our Dr. here doesn't harass me about the kids weights like our old Dr. did. It's not my fault they are light weight. They're not even skinny looking, they just don't weigh very much. OK, so maybe it's partly my fault genetically speaking, but I got sick of hearing that I needed to give them nasty pediasure when they eat every hour of their waking day. Plus they eat a wide variety of foods, it's not like they are super picky and vitamin deficient. Yay for Dr.'s who are not annoying.

Memory Lane Monday

I remember when Jordan first came home from the hospital after he was born. My mom put him on a little receiving blanket on the floor in her bedroom and I was looking at him. I was basically trying to figure him out. I didn't have a lot of experience with being around babies. I remember she asked me to watch him for a minute (I'm sure she was using the restroom or something). I was pondering what the baby store he came from might have looked like (I don't know why I thought he came from a store when I knew he was in her stomach before...I wasn't thinking logically). Anyway, as I was pondering all of a sudden he spit up. I thought I had done something horrible to him accidentally and he was in mortal peril of some sort. I yelled for my mom and thought surely she would be as upset by this crisis as I was. I remember her trying to explain to me that babies spit up. I wasn't too keen on babies for awhile after that.Jordan and I in the pool at our first Florida house. We had a lot of fun in that pool. We especially liked to play with water balloons. The object of the game was to protect your own collection of balloons from being popped by your opponent. We played that game for hours. Don't ask me how we knew which balloons belonged to us. I remember one time a had a blue one left, which I named Baby Beluga. I managed to keep that thing from popping for 2 days, despite Jordan's best efforts to pop it. I think it finally popped of old age. Another favorite game of ours was attacking each other with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pizza thrower. That was a great toy. I wonder if they make it again now that the TMNT's are back.

This Sunday I am grateful for...

*The fact that L looks this cute when she's yelling and running at me. She spends a lot of time doing it. I'm sure I'll miss it when she stops. I wouldn't mind if she took a break from the yelling once in awhile though...like during Sunday School for example.

*Playing UNO with my peas on a Sunday afternoon.

*Daniel's diligent attempts to solve all of the technical problems with our household computers & TVs. One could say he is the source of all these problems. I try to look on the bright side. Otherwise, I'd strangle him.

*Mom's Italian Sausage w/peppers for lunch today. Yum! I'm still full.

I'm not superstitious...but this is ridiculous

My Friday the 13th luck just won't quit. Yesterday morning, after reading my sister-in-law's recommendation of Harry Potter at the IMAX, I asked Daniel if he wanted to go for a date. He did not seem very enthused at all. He's been busy and grouchy. So, after letting him know I did not appreciate the attitude, I moved on with my life.

I took all 3 girls down to the pool for swimming lessons. It was hot, I was wrestling with L as usual, and it was generally an exhausting experience. My mom said she and dad were going to go away for the weekend (unexpectedly), and asked if I could walk the dog. I said sure, no problem. After I got home Daniel called and said that he had bought tickets (non-refundable, I might add) to see Harry Potter at the IMAX for Saturday morning. Umm...that's not going to work, our babysitters just left town. He thought he was making up for his bad attitude, but didn't check to make sure we had child care first.

I got a hold of one of the young women from church (this is where being the secretary of the YW organization comes in handy) and got a responsible 14 year old to come and babysit for the movie. Around 5pm yesterday, my babysitter calls and cancels. At this point, I can't find another babysitter. Then, I realize we can't go anyway, because B has a birthday party to attend this morning that we forgot about. Well, in my defense I remembered, but forgot during the hullabaloo over the movie.

To top off my Friday the 13th, I went to take care of my parents dog, Zack last night after dinner. He would not do his business for anything. I tried everything...the dog would not go to the bathroom. Grrr.

I woke up this morning thinking that surely my Friday the 13th luck had expired at midnight. I took L, and in our PAJAMAS, we ran over to let Zack out again, (and refresh his food and water). I managed to coerce him into going to the bathroom this time, but he was still not happy about it. While L and I were driving home, we got a flat tire. Yes that's right in our pajamas at 7am. Luckily we were right at the front of our street, and didn't have to walk very far. But, somehow I managed to shred the tire while I was pulling over. It took me a few seconds to figure out that it had gone flat since there was no noise.

My grandma had bought me 12 place settings of Christmas dishes this year. We did not have Christmas dinner here at our house, and I had not unpacked them from their boxes yet. I just put them up in the cabinet, still in the boxes. Today I decided to get them unpacked, and low and behold 1 plate was totally shattered, and one bowl was chipped. I'm sure it happened during shipping because they've just been sitting up in the cabinet since they got here. So, now I have to try to get the company to send me a new plate and bowl. I'm sure they think I'm an idiot for not checking the boxes when they arrived 7 months ago. I'll just buy the replacements if they won't do it. But still, it's annoying.

So, Daniel and J are out getting my van tires replaced. I had to call and get B a ride to the party, since she was the only invited guest of her friend (it was the girls twin siblings party and she was allowed to bring 1 friend). I would have felt terrible if her 1 guest didn't show up. Now, it's just L and I hanging out at home trying not to stress out. When will my bad luck streak end?

1 year old today

7/12/06 & 7/12/07
Happy Birthday Sweet Pea. We are so grateful that you came to be a part of our family. We love you soooooooooo much!

Sanitizing Toys

We are quickly approaching our 1 year anniversary here. I am determined to get the clutter and mess under control. I must get back to a cleaning schedule. A simple schedule helps me immensely. Since we moved here with a newborn, my schedule has never been the same. I've been cleaning like a crazy person all week, and am finally starting to see the difference. Plus, the house is starting to smell very fresh.

L was not happy to see her toys out of reach, but they needed to be sanitized badly.

Tit for Tat

Never one to be left out, J has been harassing me for 2 days to get her blog set up. I'll be taking dictation for her over at Pinch of Pixie Dust. Her blogger pseudonym is Tinkerbell. Hopefully now I can get back to my regularly scheduled blogging. This quick once a day hobby is now being multiplied by 3. Oh well, it's journaling and it's mother daughter bonding. We could be doing worse things, like robbing banks for example.

A New Blogger

B is blogging at Princess And A Pea...

She wanted her own blog, and her spelling could use some work. She writes with a huge vocabulary and insane invented spelling. So, she's going to type her posts and we are going to edit them for spelling together. She told me the other day..."mama, I want to be a better reader by first grade." We are working on that. She'll be blogging about the books she reads and whatever else strikes her fancy. Her blogger pseudonym is Princess Pea. Her comments are moderated through my email account, and she's not on the public listings at blogger. That should do it for her security.

Summer Reading

The peas each finished their 20 books for the summer reading program and turned in their reading logs today. We've certainly read a lot more than 20 books, but we were lazy about writing them down, so we just wrote down 20. B read quite a few of the ones on her list by herself. J and L were just "read to". The kids all got trophies and a bunch of little prizes like bookmarks, a certificate, door hanger, etc. L officially has her first trophy. She was napping when we got home, so didn't pose for the picture.

I'm decorating challenged

Got a new rug for the family room today. Mom helped me find one that had the green from the wall in it. Thanks mom! Now, I'm going to have to change my window panels to something plainer. I'm a terrible decorator. If it weren't for my mom , I'd be lost. I got the current ones soooooo cheap, that I'm just going to put them on ebay. I'm certain I'll at least get back what I paid for them a few months ago.

Now, I'm off to clean.

(I'm trying out different panels in the background)
The floor will be wood eventually.
The colors in the rug looker darker in person. The lighting is bad here.

1st Birthday Photos

Happy Birthday to you! L loves strawberries, so I made a pound cake with strawberries and cool whip. Her birthday is this week, so we had her party on Saturday.

L and cousin D playing with birthday presents.

L and mama. L opening presents.

L opening presents. L playing with one of those punching balloons. She was loving those.

Eating dinner. Playing duck, duck goose with Daddy.
