I'm going to scream. Cover your ears. AAARRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
I'm never going to make it to church again at this rate. What is going on with the middle of the summer illnesses? Normally we are healthy all summer, and sick all winter (with the passing around of colds in circles for months on end). This summer, L goes to the nursery for 2 hours on any given Sunday...2-3 days later she develops a fever & runny nose (or insert any other symptom plus fever), she stays sick for about a week while giving it to her newborn brother. He then stays sick for a week. So they are home from church the next Sunday (and I have to be home dealing with the non-stop illness induced fussiness while Daniel and the big kids go alone). If we are lucky the fevers are gone and we all go to church the next Sunday. 2-3 days later she develops another fever & cold...and the cycle starts all over.
This has been going on since she started nursery 6 months ago. I am about to lose my mind over it. No amount of sanitizing her head to toe when she walks out of the nursery helps. And now that she makes her brother sick every time, I'm ready to just stop sending her in there. Then what am I going to do with her for the 2 hours that she should be in there? I need advice. Feel free to give it.

That is just ridiculous! (sorry to add fuel to the fire) Are parents sending their children in there sick or are the toys just NEVER cleaned?! Apparently, they need some better reinforcing of the "no sick kids" policy.. I hope this doesn't happen in our nursery, but I'm in the presidency so we'll be getting a prompt stop to such things. Is L the only one getting sick so often? Sorry, I totally just ranted, but really...
I don't believe she is the only one getting sick. It seems like there are kids out sick constantly. 3 wards share the building and I'm not sure how often the toys are cleaned. I'd be happy to go in with a can of Lysol and spray them down weekly myself at this point.
There are pediatricians in Idaho and Utah that specifically tell you not to take your kids to nursery if you have a little one. It's that bad. When I was in the primary presidency every Sunday before church I would go in and spray the toys down with lysol/clorox toy spray. Good luck. Hopefully it gets better.
Been there, done that, and completely sympathize with you!
When I was Nursery Leader, as part of the routine, I had the children wash their hands as they entered Nursery. We used Sanitizer and/or wipes. It was just part of the routine. Drop the wipe in the garbage outside the door.
At snack time, again, we washed hands. It was as routine as saying the prayer, etc.
I also requested that the Toys be washed monthly (or more often) There is always a person or group who can help with this.
And....biggie.. I had a big sign out front (which is still there) stating that No Bugs are Allowed. There is a poem about runny noses, etc. and telling people that YES, this means them!
Bigger.... I was not afraid to tell a parent that their child could not come to class with the sniffles, or to take a child to a parent when a nose was runny, etc.
At the end of every Nursery, as part of the clean up and packing away the toys and supplies, I always sprayed everything down with Anitibacterial Spray.
It was just a part of the calling and I was happy to do it.
I would say come up with some suggestions and then speak with the Nursery Leader and Primary Presidency about some of the solutions.
PS...
Sorry that is so long. I always washed the tables with Antibacterial soap or wipes before snack and craft, etc. and then after.
It takes team work with the Nursery Leader and the assistants. While one is focused on the children, one can be cleaning, preparing, etc.
Parents were willing to keep the Nursery supplied in wipes, soap, etc. and sometimes the Primary Budget would reimburse for these items.
