Our Day at the Hospital

X has contracted the virus from L. He woke up this morning extremely pale, with blue lips, and screaming. We raced him down to his doctor. After checking him all out, she decided she wanted him to have a chest x-ray and more blood work, etc. She asked so many questions, I thought I was going to have to call the trainer to ask for a list of the symptoms that her kids had with it. Anyway, so then we dropped L off with Grammy and went over to Texas Childrens Hospital...for the rest of the day. We arrived home at 7pm. The verdict...low iron and a virus. He had 3 x-rays and a lot of blood work. They were concerned about the possibility of a bowel reaction to his vaccines, or a heart problem. Those were ruled out by the x-rays. Unless he turns super pale again, he will just have to have his blood checked again in a few weeks. They said that it's possible that the virus could be attacking his bone marrow or something like that causing the anemia, or he may just need an iron supplement. I wanted him to sleep with me tonight, but he refused. He insisted on going down in his crib.

Oh poor little X (and you too!) Hope he gets well soon.

It sounds like the peas have something completley different than M&P's kids though- didn't they only have fevers?

They had a fever and cough. The Dr was confident that it is the same thing that M&P's kids had. L just had the fever and a small cough...the fever caused her to have body aches and tiredness, etc, which is why she was so unhappy. X also has a fever as his only real symptom, the low iron is likely caused by the virus attacking his bone marrow according to the doctor. Then, he probably became so pale due to the low iron. He is too young to fight it off as easily as an older child.

Again, I am so so sorry Erika. I hope he gets better really soon. Did you all give him a blessing?

Just to let you know if this helps any P.D. developed the fever, but he got a sore throat with his. His sore throat took almost a week for him to get over it. Is X eating okay? Did they check his throat?

He seems totally fine now. It seemed to hit him quickly and dramatically, and then go away almost as quickly. The fever hit during the day on Monday, while we were at the hospital, and is already almost gone.

P.S. Don't worry about it, it's not your fault. Stuff just happens.

That is so scary. I freaked out the first time lil G had a fever (which also happened to be the night of Hurricane Ike. I hope all is well.

I hope X is all better now. That sounded pretty scary. Hopefully, the other children are doing well. I hope you can get them all to be healthy at the same time for once.
