Julianne's 7th Birthday part 1

To kick off Julianne's birthday celebration this year, we just had a little family dinner at home with presents and cake. Grammy and Grampy came by to join us. Juli requested her usual birthday dinner, homemade chicken strips, fries, and fruit salad. She told me to pick what kind of cake to make...so I decided to try a Texas Sheet Cake. It was pretty good. No one complained. I used PW's recipe. As you can see in the comments, it is generally referred to as Texas Sheet Cake here in TX, though this recipe doesn't have TX in the title. :) So, we had our sheet cake with some Blue Bell ice cream, and we all probably gained 5 lbs from the sheer volume of butter in the thing...but it was good.
Juli opened her presents from us (Grammy takes them on a solo birthday shopping date where they get her undivided attention and pick out whatever they want for their presents). I had a hard time with her gifts as usual, because the child almost never asks for anything so I have to guess at what she would like every holiday. I went with clothes, shoes, a couple of books, a cool game that is sort of like a more strategic version of connect 4 called Exago, and one of those things with all the little pins in it that you put on your face or hand or whatever and it makes the impression...you know the ones...they used to be made of metal pins back in the 80's.

Well, that was part 1 of Julianne's birthday. I'll blog up some pictures of our trip to Great Wolf after I dig out of the sea of laundry and various travel related messes that are currently spread all over the house. Wish me luck...

My 5 year old saw the birthday picture and asked me whose birthday it was, how old, will there be presents etc. Now she is singing a song about how she is going to a birthday party. The "that would be a really long drive" part isn't sinking in...

Happy birthday from Washington :)

p.s.- PW is going to make us all fat, one dish at a time. ;-)
