Climbing roses

My climbing roses are blooming despite my severe gardening neglect. I bought this Jaune Desprez (1830) climbing rose bush at the Antique Rose Emporium on a surprise weekend getaway for Daniel's birthday a few years ago. I will be sad to leave it here. I wonder if I could figure out how to take a cutting with me... And get it to actually survive? Don't even get me started on my beloved rose bush (that I never figured out the name of) that died after Hurricane Ike. I wish I could replace that one. It was very bright pink on the edges fading to pale pink at the center.
Note: This is why I started blogging again.  After I hit publish, I decided to search the blog for "rose", and sure enough, up popped an old post with a picture of my long dead favorite rose bush.  Now if only I could figure out what kind it was, and buy a replacement.

New paint job

We spent most of yesterday painting Jules' room. I didn't think her 5+ year old picket fence/grass paint job with fairy stickers would be generic enough for resale, so we went with a muddy rose color called Plymouth Notch. I need to touch up Bella's "brown tepee" paint, and Leia's green paint the name of which I can't recall. Daniel is ripping up the upstairs bathroom baseboards and tile. 6 people will be down to one usable shower and 2 toilets for about a week. It's going to get REAL up in here. Family bonding y'all. Here is a before and after photo to show the paint change. One step closer to calling in carpet installers!

Tile, and paint, and carpet...oh my!

I'm phone blogging from the Home Depot. The house projects continue. We need to replace the cracked tile in the upstairs bathroom and fix water damaged trim. Then do some general painting up there before I call in carpet installers Hopefully in the next 4ish weeks..  Not to mention the endless packing of boxes full of books and office junk because I married an electronics hoarder. ;-) Wish us luck. We'll need it.

Busy, busy, busy.

More of the usual busyness around here. I went away for the weekend with a couple of girlfriends and Daniel played Mr. Mom for 48 hours... And lived to tell about it.  It was a productive weekend in that I got all of my lesson planning done for the rest of the year. So, I have now officially planned an entire year of Pre-k, which is something to celebrate for sure. I plan to reteach through these lessons again next year.  So hopefully my thorough prep will pay off in the repeat usefulness.

Time seems to be slipping away from me. February is almost gone already.  The house cleaning and packing continues. Loading boxes and filling trash bags is providing some quality bonding time. The kids and I were looking through Daniel and my year books a few days ago. It seems silly that we keep duplicate copies of grade 5-12 year books. But, how do you decide whose set to get rid of? So we continue to keep them all. The front room is filling with boxes that are ready for storage.  We hope to have upstairs carpet replaced in the next month. That will be a big step toward being ready to move.

Xander was asking to see his Nana today, which is surprising since he doesn't get to see her often. I was glad to be able to tell him that she will be coming for a visit soon. Hopefully it won't be a box graveyard in here when she comes to visit. We'll just keep working on it and cross our fingers. I need to paint Julianne's room before we have carpet installers come in for the upstairs.

Today, however is not a day to get much accomplished between preschool, piano lessons, and church activities tonight. Maybe tomorrow will see more house progress. Fingers crossed.

Signing Valentines

This pamphlet came home in Jules' folder today. What the heck?! Do we really live in a world where this is necessary in the 4th grade?

Box city

We have set a family goal to sell our house this summer. We are short on bathrooms and storage space primarily. So, we are trying to throw away and box up all of our excess for storage, in order to move toward being ready to list. It is a major undertaking... that we hope will be worth the effort. Once we are fully decluttered, there is a lot of painting and touch up project loose ends to complete.  So, that's what I've been doing with my free time recently. Progress updates to follow... Hopefully.
